Never done it on an old Triumph, but done plenty of old BMC conversions. Do *not* leave the generator's regulator inline with an alternator. Alternators B+ lead (where you're looking at putting D+)

There are two methods of wiring in ammeters. Method A is described above. This puts the ammeter inline with the charging system. It will register the amount of current coming from the gen/alt, only.
