You could have a fluid level issue or an electrical issue. Could be the switch on the top cover is loose. Or some loose wiring behind the dash. I'd do the easy things first...wiring behind the dash

I believe there is a Mallory Unilite version with a cable drive. It's more money(of course), but you wouldn't have to have your tach modified...probably a trade off... None of the big 3 sell it, but

I believe they went something like this... TR4=4" TR250=4.5" '69TR6=5" 70-76TR6=5.5" You may be able to tell which you have by lookin' around on the rim...should have something like 4J or 4.5J stamp

To Add to Vance's post... The early GT6 heads had different studs or I should say, I have a MKIII GT6 head on our MKI GT6. The holes for the studs in the block had to be bored out for larger studs. S
