I don't know about ADs but on TF trucks the VIN should be spot welded to the driver's side windshield post. If its attached with pop rivets or screws look out. robert -- two small clutch head screws.

Try looking on top of the left side frame rail in front of the parking brake bracket. I'm not sure about GMCs but this is were it is on Chevy's. I'm not sure but I believe it is also stamped farther

When you truck was produced, just like today, the new models for each year were introduced a few months before the year acually began. So it is very possible you have a 48 that was made in late 47.
