By any chance, is there a rattling or knocking coming from low down (near the crank) on the front of the engine? This sounds like what my old '89 went through before I found the crank key had rolled.

If you haven't done it before, 'properly' means to make sure the timing pulley is ALL THE WAY back before putting the front cover on. Then check it again before sliding the crank pulley on. And then

I've used that spot, too, without any problems. There is some twisting, but not enough to even affect door clearances, and the rear tire is maybe 4-6 inches lower than the front at full droop. -- -Ri
