I took some time today to look through my manuals and there is a very good description of the control box, cleaning and calibration, in my old 72 Haynes manual. Hopefully cleaning the contacts solved

I've seen several suggestions regarding tapping the CENTER of something laid across the bore - this seems impossible unless you have the two halves of the caliper apart, and I'm sure I read somewhere
