It probably has something to do with the anti-theft interlock on the steering wheel. My 79 MGB does the same thing, and I've found that cranking the wheel clockwise till it locks is the {a} solution.

Well, when I rebuilt my MGB engine, I used spray-type copper gasket sealant as recommended by Scott Fisher. I haven't had any leaking problems, except at the rear main seal. (Which *didn't* leak befo
