Sprite (MG Midget) ratios were 4.2:1 for the small engines and 3.9:1 for the 1275s. There are heaps of other ratios available as well: Morris Minor, Austin A30 /35/40 etc. that range from at least 5.

I've been running one in my Cooper 'S' Historic racer since 1994. No problems at all, very progressive engagement, no noises. It's lost a bit of tension since it was first installed and will be tight

What you say is true, there are no springs or clutch plates; but there are (according to the manual) a group of 5 steel spring washers located at the centre of the diff, pretensioning the output gear
