12 point more apt to get on a fastener in tight quarters, less space needed to turn. 6 point less likely to strip or round off a fastener. I use 12 point and don't have problems but others will have

Mike, unless the engine is going to sit up for a good while, be careful about lube on the cyl walls. When you run it you don't want anything to interfere with the rings seating. I use only wd40. John
