We haven't seen that happen yet, but it has been a topic of discussion. When we prep headers they are placed in one of our ovens and baked to remove any contaminants and oil (even brand new headers)

Before I removed the fan shroud, rad, fan, and water pump, my fan was just over 1/2 an inch from the rad and did not hit the shroud. How far in or out from the shroud I did not check, was just happy
