Strange, I've been pondering the same thing. I think the key is finding a trans with a removable bellhousing so it can be installed using the Moss box bellhousing. I haven't done any measuring yet,

One of the 5 speeds that has been recommended for retrofitting to the 4/4 is the box out of the Merkur XR4Ti. (I think this list had a thread on it about a year ago) The real problem is finding one

Wish I could find a readily available (read:cheap) 5-speed that A firm here in the land of Oz makes cast alloy bell housing which enable you to bolt up a 5 speed Toyota Celica box to the Kent engine.

I'm not sure the Merkur XR4Ti box is a good idea. We owned an XR4, a nice car but the gearboxes in them are not reliable. Some XR4Ti owners are replacing the 5 speed with a box from Mustangs. Ken Pay
