Add to what Barry said, the fact that there have been certain cars produced through the years that have the gearbox built into the bottom end of the engine and they use the same oil for both purposes

I fully agree with what you are saying - in fact I mentioned the engine oil being specified on MGs (and other BMC products) earlier in this thread. As something of an aside, MG gearboxes have always
