My guess is that it is that the fuel flow dropping off. Change the fuel pump and see if the problem goes away. That has worked in the past for me with the four cylinder tractor engine. Fuel pressure

The 165 at the rear wheels in the original configuration seems a little low to me given your CR. I know you have put a lot of effort into it, but I would think you should be pulling another 10 hp. I
