I remember Smokey Yunick recommending that dizzy be locked (with no advance mechanism of any kind) at the preferred total advance number. Starting was achieved by spinning the motor with the ign. tur

I do it whenever I forget to shut off my accusump. If it's been a very long time or it's a fresh rebuild I pull the dizzy and spin the pump to fill and pressurize the accusump and get oil everywhere
