Earlier this year I gave up on my Lucas distributor and converted to a Mallory dual point system. I've been much happier with the distributor curve. However it goes through condensers like popcorn at

I'm running the Mallory dual point on both my TR6's. On the street car, I had the exact (or similar) behavior where condensors go bad in an unpredictable manner. On the race car, I had problems when

Sorry for the long posting, but I forgot one thing. When I asked this question before, I got a few responses that said "check the ground". The strap around the condensor has a plating on it (cadmium

I just fitted a Mallory to my GT6 and have been having intermittent ignition problems, mostly a misfire at high speed. What are the symptoms you are experiencing with condenser failure? Several peopl

The condensor failing will show in one of two ways - intermittent poor spark where the car will misfire once or twice under load but the "recover" and total failure. With total failure you get a very

I put a Mallory Distributor on my Vitesse a few years back, and at the same time fitted the Pertronix Hall-effect unit. Therefore I have never experienced a condensor, or points problem with the Mall

The failure seems to follow a logarithmic curve. First it is an occasional misfire while driving along and just when I start thinking of buying some new media for my spark plug cleaner it starts acti

Last time I bought some of the Mallory 400 condensers, the packaging listed the rating of the part, I think it's .28 microfarads. I know that NAPA has replacement condensors that look the same (same

I had at this same problem with bad condensers a few years ago on my race TR3. I decided (after consulting this esteemed group) that Mallory was making junk condensers and gave up on them. I gutted t

The capacitance of the condensor is related to the resistance of the priimary windings of the coil that is in the circuit. So the coil is critical!. The Mallory condensors may also not be as robust a

There's nothing magic about the Mallory condensors (capacitors)--anything will work just as well. Condensers ideally are matched to the coil and ballast resistor, the distributor type doesn't matter

Of course, one other splution is to get rid of the points and use a Mallory Unilite [spelling?] conversion -- seems to work very well for me. -- Chuck Arnold _________________________________________

I also do not run an alternator and had a ballast resistor, but kept having failed condensers. Maybe the Accel Super Coil was not a good match, but the combination did work well for years. Joe(B) I h

currently running with a Bosch Blue coil, no visible resistor anywhere. The blue is internally ballasted IIRC, you can check between the LT terminals, around 2-3 ohms... Glen not a tweet ____________

FWIW, they don't even need to be inside the distributor. Some VWs have them mounted to the coil on the firewall, where I'll bet they last longer. Randall ____________________________________________
