I could be wrong but I think that the 20-50W oils like Valvoline VR1 have added the zinc back in, but formulations graded less than 20W have not. I think that once they took the zinc out, the engines

What about the power lost pumping that heavier oil around? That's the whole reason for the push to thinner oils for modern cars, they help improve fuel mileage by reducing losses within the motor. -

I compared that to what is listed at the Brad Penn site. They have .15 zinc, .14 phosphorus in all but the 0W-30. The VR1 is .14 zinc and.13 phosphorus for all viscocities. I think both these numbers
