The threads in thermostat housing are British Pipe Threads. the threads are not tapered, they are parallel threads. USP 3/8 threads are tapered threads. The sending unit seals by the threads pushing

Following Kas' little old black book, buy a roll of screen door felt from the local hardware store, cut it into little sections, soak them in Permatex, and pound them into each side of the rear main

You might want to test fit your gauge, Greg. As I recall, the TR4 housing will accept the original TR3 mechanical gauge, and my Sun mechanical temp gauge fits into a TR3 housing perfectly. Randall _
