Cutting off the fan extension will work fine. It would be best to true up the end in a lathe after sawing it off to get a nice flat surface for the bolt head but with some care I am sure you could t

The Triumph sedans do not have the extension , they use a short hub about 1.25 inch thick to which the fan bolts . I have been running and Aluminium replacement on my race car for a number of years
