I think in your case the issue is different. The window crank escutcheon retention spring is what causes the BJ8 panels to bow over time. But by richard's description, it sounds like he doesn't have

Another very common work around is to drill the crank handle's peg hole closer to the end, pushing the crank window out. You can usually get another 1/4 or so of clearance doing this. Alan '52 A90 '
