These buffers help to keep the selector shafts from traveling too far. If they travel too far the springs and detent balls can come out and end up in the bottom of the tranny. I recommend going back

Hi Tracy I didn't even realize that there was a rear buffer. Regarding ending up in the bottom, one of the detent springs was broken when I disassembled (now I know why), and part of the spring had w

Thanks you to everyone who replied on and off list. I've determined that my gearbox assembly has only a single buffer in the clutch housing. I have yet to reassemble, though. I have braved separating
