I just picked up a 3 speed box and overdrive. The trans has the number 981stamped on it and the overdrive has a brass plate stamped 1292/227. I know the 1292 identifies the overdrive as a 28% unit bu

Gearbox 981 tells me that it's an early BN1 box with the earlier set of gears, not interchangeable with gears in boxes after 5145 unless in complete sets. The o/d number is for the 28% ratio, and ag
