It's not the direction of the loop but which way the current goes. Cut the wire at both ends of the loop and swith the wires around until the tach starts working. Be sure to solder the connections p

The fuel gauge sending unit is a variable resistor - 0 to 100 ohms. If you have an electronics supply store near by, pick up a couple of resistors in that range. Disconnect the lead from the sending
