Dear MG enthusiasts, Recently I purchased the much appraised MGB K&N filter set to swap for the standard pancake filters on the double HS4 setup. (the 'standard' setup for a B!) I bought them from MO

[ Bert: Sorry I don't have any answers, only questions. ] Can somebody explain this to me? I thought the whole purpose of the Constant Velocity carb design was to maintain the mixture at a certain ve

Take a plug wrench with you next time you go out and hot-rod it and see for yourself. If plugs are sandpaper-white, you got a problem. But I think you may be being oversold on those K&Ns. The area ov

Todd Mullins replies - -snip- - Yes! The name K&N comes from the fact that they filter out K (potassium) and N (nitrogen) if you use the special oil they sell. Now there isn't much potassium in air

Really. I had absolutely no idea. So you're saying that air is actually 80% nitrogen, of which the K&N filters remove - what - all of it? Half? That could turn out to be a big oxygen increase. So do

Good Afternoon, Yes Virginia, stoichiometry is sacred. Opps, excuse me that was Todd, and what would you like for Christmas? So, the system is dynamic. We have nonlinear air flow, pressure drops, an

Maybe it is like this: If the carb inlet is restricted, such as by an inefficient air filter, the vacuum in the inlet region (between throttle plate and filter) would increase. This vacuum would pul

I think the vacumn would stay constant because the piston is supposed to rise and fall to maintain a constant vacumn. So a blocked air filter would cause the piston to rise which also raises the need

I understand that the vacuum which raises the pistons, in the SU carb, is generated by the velocity of the airflow through the carb, not manifold vacuum. Since a clogged air filter reduces the airfl
