15 thou isn't tight - if you checked them cold it is correct, if hot then loose - it should be 13. The rocker cover nuts tighten down to a shoulder, not the gasket and the head, to prevent the cover

I can't speak for the MGA, and I know early MGB engines were different, but from November 67 the situation is as I described - you have to tighten the rocker cover nuts down to the shoulder on the cy

The MGA and MGB valve covers are dimensionally interchangeable. It appears that your valve cover has previously been distorted around the attachment holes, most likely from overtightening the nuts.
