I had my '54 apart recently and there is a stop on the backside to keep the spindle from turning too far. Does your '56 have this stop? The actual stop is a little bent plate angle with a bolt fasten

Gale, Doug & all: Just looked at my '57 GMC 1/2 ton front axle. It has "lumps" for the stops to hit on both the front and rear side of the axle. Maybe these things are bi-sexual?? ___________________

look at the shims. They have a raised dimple that fits into a shallow hole on the axle. The hole goes to the back. I just had my '58 apart and figured out it was easier to bolt the springs to the ax

You want positive caster so the upper (top) of the spindle leans back toward the rear of the truck. If the spring rests on top of the axle the large end of the wedge would be towards the rear of the

On my '57, the adjustable screw ("stop") is on the spindle and moves. The "lump" I am talking about is cast on both sides of the axle and is the point that the screw hits. Sure looks that way and GM
