The nicer ones are generally called "flight cases", the cheaper plastic ones are also decent, SKB is a common brand for music gear. Remember that a 50lb (~22kg) limit exists on a lot of checked bags

I'll second that recommendation for pelican cases. We use pelican cases for all of our video gear. They are not light, but they've done a great job of protecting our gear, including ~5000 miles spent
