The bearings won't be exposed (unless you mean 1870's). Probably the easiest is to just puncture the system so the R12 leaks out ... although that's a shame both from an environmental point of view

1- Unplug the frig then remove the electrical connection cover from the compressor and break off one of the 3 pins coming out of the sealed compressor. They have repair kits for this kind of damage,
