First, you have to make sure it's real magnesium by putting your torch to it. If it burns, it's magnesium and you should throw plenty of water on it. The resulting reaction should show up any cracks

When I wondered if my AR Silverstones were true Magnesium, I chipped a tiny piece off the back and hit it with a mini butane torch. If it is Magnesium, you'll know it when it ignites, it burns hot. L
