My '66 Sprite has the vin stamped on the right front shock mount. I sent a pic to Jim. The vin is located toward the firewall side adjacent to the turned up edge of the shock mount plate. Tim Collins

I believe you should be able to see the number with the shock in place. But, you will probably have to do a degreasing job there and if the paint is thick enough you may not be able to see the number

Have just come back from going over the car with a fine tooth comb. VIN mystery is solved. On the shock mounting plate it is GAN3L45511 which, according to Horler, makes it a December 1965 build with
