Ok, I don't know much about the Honda Accord design, but I'll share with you a similar story. On the Nissan Altima 2.5 four cylinder, the catalytic converter is made as part of the exhaust manifold.

The oil is being burnt, but because the catalytic converter is still working well, the excess polutants are being burnt. You won't see blue smoke until the catalitic converter clogs or burns out. If

The catalytic converters have to be mounted as close to the engine as possible so that they heat up quickly. My 1976 Dodge Colt (Mitsubishi) had the catalitic converter cast into the exhaust manifold
