One year ago this weekend I put my '62 in the garage and started an upgrade. I'm now to the point I can try starting the rebuilt 1275 I put in it. I'll apologize in advance for the many stupid questi

First, do you have fire at all the plugs? _______________________________________________ Edit your replies http://www.team.net/archive http://autox.team.net/mailman/listinfo/spridgets

Yes, #1 is farthest from firewall or closest to radiator, take your pick ;-) TDC is not always accurate... you have to pull the valve cover in order to KNOW whether it is supposed to be firing this

I'm pretty sure that clockwise starting with the #1 terminal the order of the wires on the dizzy should be 1-2-4-3. The order you have below is correct if that is counter-clockwise. Robert _________

Joe, Short answer, swap the coil and change plug wires, easy and relatively cheap. Long anecdote below. Recently at the race track my Sprite was doing the same thing with less frequency. The tach was

I had to read that lefty. Robert is right. The tach spins counterclockwise, though, and 1-3-4-2 is correct in the CCW direction as you turn the engine. Ron ___________________________________________

I'll start with the obvious first step. Is the block properly grounded via ground strap? Maybe a derfism but seems like a logical first step considering info provided. _______________________________

OK - I have fire at each plug. I made sure #1 was TDC by checking timing mark on pulley was at center mark on timing chain cover, peering in #1 and #4 sparkplug holes, and pulling valve cover to see

TDC for 1 and 4 is the same. But, because the cam turns 1/2 turn for every crank turn, lining up the mark can give you either 4 or 1 ready to fire. If the #1 valves aren't both closed, then you have

Another note: On fresh rebuilds I like to pull the plugs and turn the motor over with the starter until I see oil pressure on the gauge. You may have already done this or you may have turned it over

It sounds like you are 360 crank degrees out with actually no4 on TDC Firing Rotate crank 360 and recheck valve positions. You want no1 valves both closed so rockers will be a little loose. No4 exhau
