I have tuned my SU carbs by ear (using some fuel line). I am sure a synchronization tool would help, but I have baulked at the big three's prices (in the $30s). I have also been outbid a few times in

Personally, I wouldn't take that bet. Idle synchronization is not all that critical, due to the balance tube in the manifold. IMO, the "SU tool kit" does more useful things, costs less, is more rugg

Brian, I agree with Randall here. I have the su tool kit and I use the jet spanner more than anything. In fact I have an extra spanner and it is in the cubby box along with a distributor gap tool. I

Ideal for carbs, and many other "listening for knocks" type uses is a pair of those old airliner headphones with the two plastic tubes that you plugged into the seat armrest. Unfortunately the new el

Now this is a great subject. I bought the Edlebrock Carb Sync tool (the silver one with the little red float) and gave it away. The only thing it would do is snuff out the carb that I put it over and

The SU tool kit also falls into the "That's so simple" category. For synchronization, it supplies two rods that get pushed into the carb pistons in place of the dampers, and two pieces of wire to go

Excellent! You are right. It is simple and makes so much sense. == This list supported in part by The Vintage Triumph Register == http://www.vtr.org

Working on motorcycles for decades now, I'm quite used to synchronizing carburetors. I have to say that neither matching throttle blade gap nor using a hose to listen with is very accurate. The best

Why is this different than the "snail"? Although the snail does not "measure" vacuum it does measure the vacuum relative to each carb. I understand that the carbs need to be synchronized, but which s

Just to be clear, Nolan, the SU Tool kit does neither of those things. Instead, it measures the movement of the venturi piston, which responds directly to venturi velocity. This gives it an accuracy

Anything you stick in the front of a carburetor screws up airflow into that carburetor. That's how it gets a reading in fact. If you were to place an identical snail in front of each carburetor at th

Yes, I know. But since no one had mentioned measuring throttle blade opening, and I HAD mentioned measuring piston movement, I thought perhaps you didn't understand the difference. SU's do not. Not
