Way to go Mayf! The most obvious reason why you can't exceed 5200 rpm is you need more horsepower to go faster. I assume you get more horsepower at higher rpms, so the obvious solution is lower gears

Lack of horsepower is the only reason I can think of for not going faster. Theo, If Mayf knows the engine should be putting out enough HP @ 5200 rpm to go faster than 180, then he needs to fix what'

Maybe, but don't forget the late Dick Smith and the number on the gumball on the door....198. 198 MPH at Sebring form the winningest factory Cobra driver ever. Just horsepower and balls is all it too

You could learn a lot from dynoing the engine as is first. If you replace the springs first, you'll never know if the valves were floating until the next run at Bonneville. Knowing the HP @5200 rpm
