Just called Rick at SS. He says there IS a spacer where you describe but is steel, 1/2" long with a narrow gauge wall. Too think and it will interfere with the sheetmetal (?) So the slug that I'm try

I would try and see if the round piece you have "fits" the hole in the sheet metal and if it does than that might be the right part. I don't recall mine being very "thin walled" and if I remember the
