There was a major discussion thread about this very subject a while back on the e-mail list. If I remember correctly, it has more to do with the engine number than it does with the serial number of

The B19KC group of engines is the only group that can be a problem to determine its color. The early B19KC engines are black, the later B19KC engines are blue. TBON states Black for the block color.
