Plate UP!, complying with most states height requirements. As we compared our Tiger "features", I am sure that your lights are pointed in the correct upwards position to illuminate the rear deck lid

I have one each :). An illinois plate on the 'boot' and a uk plate under bumper mounted on a CAT club bracket with lights pointing down. That's fine here because the illinois plate is just considered

You don't have to drill holes in the rear of the deck lid, as they came with the holes and plate brackets, and the light shining on the plate, lenses pointing to the license. You have the holes, but
