- A couple things to check: Is the belt old? Rubbery bits do tend to get hard and become not so sticky when they get old. Is the belt damaged? Slipping will heat the surface, and the heat will glaze th

- Did you install a new belt? Is the alignment of the belt and pulleys correct? Is the top surface of the belt nearly level with the edge of the pulleys? If the belt is down in the grove of the pulley

- thanks for the responses: - the belt is new (about 300 miles or so) and was fine before i pulled the engine out. - it does have the grooved teeth in it. - it either got worse or appeared for the firs
