Sounds like you have the same problem I had with my 235, Found out it was the wrong sending unit. I bought 3, one from Chevy Duty, one from ABC, one from Auto Zone, Heavy Chevy gave me the NAPA numbe

-assuming it's a second series 55 truck As far as I know, the 55 trucks originally came with a mechanical (bourdon tube) gage, not an electric gage. If it has the 56-59 electric gage installed, then

I don't think they went to electric temp guages until 56, so my guess is that your truck was converted at some time. Check the wire between the guage and the sensor. Guess is that it is broken and/or
