Cams, exhaust and intake manifolding can greatly improve fuel economy and power at the same time. It's not necessarily a trade off. Head design and associated manifolding were originally done to be c

Is your 3 speed od a manual or automatic? Also, I'm thinking the TBI would be much easier to make look "retro" because it could sit on one of the 283 style (oil filler in the manifold) intakes. That

Mark, We have a very similar setup. My '57 has a 283, 3 speed manual, 3.90 gears, and I scoured local junkyards to get two overdrive units. Had a tranny shop put the best parts together to get a 3 sp

Hi All, Has anybody out there experimented by pulling out their old 216 or 225 and putting in a small to midsize V-6 with fuel injection attached to an automatic overdrive tranny. I'd like to upgrade

Its OK to go that route. I was first looking at a Mercedes i6 fi diesel to go in my truck. Whatever floats your boat. Try the 4.3 Chevy v6. It comes with fi and basically it's a 350 cut down by 2 cy

Well, personally I don't think you'll see that kind of milage with a V6 in one of these trucks. Take a look at the MPG figures for the new full size V6 (injected, etc) and expect a bit less than they

Why on earth would I want to pull my inline in favor of a V engine? The 261 in the '50 has more power than I need and gets ~20 mpg with dual carbs. Allen in Seattle '50 3100 http://students.washingto

I've mentioned before on the list that my 350 TPI V8 Corvette gets 28 mpg at 75 mph on the highway. It has 2.73 gears behind a 700R4 and so it turns about 1800 rpm at the same 75 mph. It weighs about
