Hi All, My '51 GMC has the old toeboard starter button and I want to change to the later solenoid type starter. I have the correct starter from a later GMC. I'd rather not change the ignition switch

I did just this not long ago , my foot start starter crapped out and I needed to get back on the road fast (daily driver) My 235 is from a '56 and has the fine tooth ring gear so I couldn't just drop

Thanks Gordon! My solenoid has terminals marked "S" and "R" in addition to the heavy lug for the battery cable. Wiring diagram does not identify these - which is which? I presume "S" is for Start? Wh

14 ga should be enough. I used the wire that was inteneded to power the coil for the starter and moved the switched end from the "ign" term to the "start" terminal. I ran a new wire to my coil. I use

I used what ever gauge was called for in the original wire diagram I think it was a 10ga. or a 14 ga. I have the info over at my shop I check it out and post back later . Also I think I used the "S"
