Sounds like the part you are missing is the bolt with the bullet nose. Look on the hood and see if it broke or just unscrewd, as it is threaded in the bracket and had a jam nut to lock it in place.

If it only unscrewed, it may be stuck in the hood latch mechanism. Open the hood and look up to see if it's there. Maybe all you really need is a lock nut. Mike Klepp '48 3100 5 window '65 C-10 steps

Well I just looked at it with a little more light and time. The 'hood lock' as its called in the Chevrolet assembly manual is definitely gone. Its not caught in the mechanism or lying in the splash p
