I think it might be a Canadian truck thing .... I had one other report like yours from Canada. It might be that it was not a factory side mount too. It seems that all righthand mounts have no fender

The canadians were just smarter. I find when standing around shooting the crap, a lot of us sit on the running board (generally on the drivers side). You cant do that with the tire mounted there. Did

Could it be that the 3600 models '47-'52 had the right side spare tire mount as a factory option? I see that your '49 3600 is on that side...and isn't that original? Also in the book "Great American

I can't comment on the Canadian models that some people have mentioned, but, based on official Chevy documentation, I have to go along with Bob Adler on this, the side mount spare tire carrier was no

--WebTV-Mail-30887-2636 Jeff - I agree with you on the '53+ models but we are still trying to figure out why some apparently stock 3600 trucks have a left side mount spare tire. Tom Poterack '49 Chev

Purely a guess, but I could see owners of 53 and earlier trucks asking their dealers to install a side mount spare tire carrier (which the dealer certainly could have ordered from the factory) after
