I have that problem...but the hinges on 58-59 are different from 55-57, they break more easily because they have fewer teeth on the gears. Did you try shimming the hinge where it bolts to the firewal

i was looking at my hood today and noticed that the cross barrs are not centered(the big x under the hood) are they made that way or has someone been creative with it? thanks, ed solis 58 gmc100v8
