The ole boy who helped me rebuild my first 235 had me adjust the valves while running. I thought it was a bit odd myself, but it seemed to work. He was a dirt track racer back in the 50's and I respe

I think that when adjusting the 235 there is a method where, once you find TDC on #1 cylinder, you only have turn the engine one revolution to adjust all the valves. Can't remember it off the top of

Since I have been working at a motorcycle/jetski shop, we have always done valve adjustments on cold engines. Reason being that all metals expand at different rates, and the truest readings come from

Yes, there is a way to set all valves in two steps. Turn the engine until No. 2 cylinder inlet valve starts to open. Now turn slowly an notice No. 1 cylinder exhaust valve will also start to open. Co

Engine fully warmed up and running to adjust valves. Set your idle as low as it will go to do it, then readjust to normal idle speed after adjustment. Not a big deal, not even much mess. Mike Klepp

At the low RPMs our old sixes run, I don't think that valve lash is as critical as in a race engine. On my old CJ5 I adjusted the valves one time at TDC while they were good and hot and left the rock
