I did this to my 57 ½ ton and it was great. I used a Monza 4 sp. with a deep first gear. I later swapped it out to install 5 sp. which is much better for milage and to make the truck amazingly quit

When I purchased my '51 it had a 235 with a muncie four speed bolted to it but I'm not sure where the bell housing came from, just that it can be done. Seemed to be a good combination mechanically.
