- I've about decided to throw in the towel, and buy a 12 volt gauge and start over. Question: Is there any way to check the sending unit independently, before I spend another $45 on a gauge? Thanks Smo

- Be very careful before trying this. Old Lionel train transformers put out ALTERNATING CURRENT, not DC. They also go higher than 12 volts, possibly up to 20VAC. Use a multimeter first and veryify the
