Yes you need a Ballast resester inline and you should use a 60psi gauge with oil on 235 engine Robert Baird Ft. Worth Texas 1954 Chevrolet 1/2 Ton P/U http://webpages.charter.net/bairdr/RobertsTruck.

if you are using a 6 volt coil in a 12 v world then you need a b. res. and if you are using an un res.coil then you need one. if your using 12 volts and you have a 12 volt coil with internal reseter
