Mine is 9 feet (house/garage built 3 years ago). I really messed up. If I would have gone 9 1/2 feet or 10 feet, I could have put a lift in and had room for a gantry-style engine lift. Oh well.....

Shop is just over 10 ft, seems to work fine, although I don't have a lift and never have intended to get one. 8 ft is too short, 12 would be really nice if you are planning on having an indoor lift (
