- They had a 6 speed Powermatic (automatic transmission) and they had 4 & 5 speed manuals from '56-59 (available for the BIG trucks). I haven't seen any 6 speed manuals used in the TF series trucks. Do

- hey all~ ok. BIG trucks. 2 and up tonnage. had the avalibility of a 5 speed SPICER tranny. BUT at the same time. in the same year trucks even BIGGER....there was a 6 speed option. I have 2 5 speeds.

- Those old 5 speeds still only have a 1:1 in 5th gear (same as 3 or 4 speed high gears), so the only thing you gain is more shifting to get there and lower 1st gears....newer 5 speeds have 5th gear as

- I just bought a 55 Ford, and it has a 5spd in it that is called "Direct" as it has 1:1 ration in 5th, not Odrive. It's a New Process I'm thinking, but will know more about it when it comes home. G. L
