When putting the pistons/rods in, I slip rubber fuel line hose over the rod bolts to protect the crankshaft from getting dinged. I also leave the bearing insert out of the rod until the piston is in

You might want to consider using assembly lube on your journals or rod bearings in place of the oil mixture. The assembly lube will stay in place and lubricate the journals until you have oil pressu
