Michael S. Lishego http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/3706/ I got rid of my OD because, to quote many Jerry Springer guests, it wasn't 'All That'. After running it for a few weeks, I didn't

Good Lord, it boggles the mind! Now ODs cause accidents on ice. Outlaw `em Senator and save our children! Rebuild a used tranny before installing it? $700? Sheesh, I stuck it into the car and took it

Ok, come on now. You've taken a perfectly good argument and twisted it for your own purposes. Are you in government or an advertising exec? First point - I don't give a cat's @ss what you put in your

I think the real discussion is can an OD decrease engine wear enough to justify its existance. If I get 130,000 miles instead of 125,000 miles, that doesn't add up to the money and time spend install

I'm not going to pick sides, but the logic is far from "elementary". For starters, the engine is generating the same hp to keep the car at speed. If it's doing it at a higher rpm the bearing load is

Having owned and still owning Bs both with and without OD, I can say with absolute certainty that regardless of engine wear or gas mileage considerations, the OD is one of the best piece-of-mind addi

With regards to fuel mileage or wear? Here's a "fuel mileage" thought. To cruise at 80mph with the aerodynamics of a B might require, say, 50hp. It still requires 50hp no matter what gear you are in.

Initially interested by the phrase "5 speed" in the title, I ended up reading this discussion with decreasing enthusiasm. However, I must applaud this one paragraph from Mike Lishego: An overdrive is

I agree with you about OD. It's overrated. At the high speeds some people say they like it at, the B is putting out mostly noise anyway! When I bought my B new the dealer highly recommended against i
